Gothic Wedding Styled Shoot for LGBTQIA+ y’ALL Workshop in Birmingham, Alabama

I recently had the incredible opportunity to co-host y'ALL Workshop, a unique and inclusive event dedicated to helping photographers better serve LGBTQIA+ couples. This workshop, hosted by Kelsey Justice, Mary Fehr, and me was a celebration of love and inclusivity, offering valuable insights and practical skills for capturing the beauty and diversity of LGBTQIA+ weddings.

The Workshop

At the heart of the y'ALL Workshop is a commitment to serving the queer community with respect, empathy, and understanding. I taught other photographers about inclusive marketing, client experience, and vendor relations—all geared towards creating a welcoming and affirming experience for LGBTQIA+ couples.

The Session

During the workshop, I had the privilege of hosting a styled session based on gothic aesthetics with red as my featured wedding color. We incorporated florals with bows, dramatic tulle draping, and a 1920s-inspired wardrobe from Haus of Junon. The session was even more magical than I had ever dreamt. My couple Corey and Victor brought so much love to this styled shoot.

The Impact

Beyond the photography skills and techniques learned, the y'ALL Workshop had a deeper purpose—to support the LGBTQ+ community. All profits from the workshop were donated to Invisible Histories, making a positive impact on the community I serve.

As a photographer, I have the power to shape narratives and amplify voices. The y'ALL Workshop was a reminder of the importance of inclusivity and representation in my work. I celebrate ALL love and believe that a diverse portfolio is the bare minimum for working with LGBTQIA+ couples.

Thank you to everyone who attended the y'ALL Workshop and contributed to its success. Together, we can continue to create a more inclusive and accepting world for all couples, regardless of who they love.
