Moody Wedding Portraits at Pickett Place in Florence,

Pickett Place is one of those venues that makes you slow down the second you walk in. The light. The texture. The way every room feels like it has a story.

Lillian and Diego came here in January for wedding portraits, but not on their actual wedding day. They intentionally planned these photos for after the wedding so they wouldn’t have to spend a huge chunk of their wedding day taking portraits.

And honestly? More couples should know this is an option.

Why They Chose to Do Portraits After the Wedding

Lillian and Diego’s wedding timeline was already packed. They knew spending a long stretch of the day taking photos would feel overwhelming, and they didn’t want their wedding to become a schedule they were just trying to survive.

So instead of squeezing everything in, they chose something simpler.

They planned a separate portrait session after the wedding, which meant:

  • they didn’t have to rush

  • they didn’t have to disappear from their guests for an hour

  • they could stay present on their wedding day

  • we could create portraits that felt calm and intentional

It took the pressure off completely.

January Light + Moody Interiors at Pickett Place

January at Pickett Place is gorgeous if you love mood. The light is softer, the tones feel richer, and everything leans romantic without being overly sweet.

Pickett Place has plenty of bright spots, but what I love most is how the venue holds shadow and depth. It’s not sterile or flat. It has atmosphere.

Which is exactly why my favorite portraits from this session happened inside.

The Bar Room: My Favorite Spot for Wedding Portraits at Pickett Place

There’s a bar room in the middle of the house that I’m fully obsessed with.

The lighting is moody in the best way, and there’s a floral portrait in there that feels like it belongs in an old film still. It’s one of those rooms that instantly makes portraits feel editorial without asking a couple to “perform” for the camera.

That’s where we made my favorite photos of Lillian and Diego.

What They Wore: Comfortable, Elegant, and Timeless

Lillian wore an Estee dress that was comfortable, elegant, and fitted in a way that looked effortless. The fabric draped beautifully, and the whole look felt clean and classic without being stiff.

Diego wore a tan suit, which was such a good choice for January. Warm, soft, and a little unexpected.

Together, their outfits felt refined and romantic, without feeling overly styled.

Editorial Wedding Photography That Still Feels Real

This is the kind of session I love most.

I’m always aiming for portraits that feel art-forward, but still honest. Images that look beautiful, but still feel like you. Real expressions. Natural closeness. A little quiet.

Lillian and Diego didn’t need hours of wedding-day portrait time to get photos that felt meaningful.

They just needed space.
